Living Out My Faith

Today we are continuing to talk about putting our faith into action. In James it says that we are to be doers of the word, not just hearers of the word. We want to constantly have our faith be lived out through the action in our lives. Even further, we want action that has a genuine desire to know God more and to learn what it means to be believers. The world doesn’t need more people going to church because they have to, but instead because they want to learn and grow. Memorizing scripture is not helpful if we don’t use it to influence the way we live. The church needs to draw people closer to God, not isolate people from Him. We want to live out our faith in a way that allows people to see God’s character through us.

Reflection: In John 15 when Jesus tells us to abide in Him, He means in ALL aspects of life. This is not easy by any means, however, the more we make an effort to do this, the more fruitful our lives will be. Take some time alone this week to reflect if you have just been a “hearer of the word” or if you have been a “doer of the word”. If you find you haven’t put your faith in action enough, that’s okay! The important thing is to realize that and move forward with change. If you find that you are someone who has been a doer of the word, great! Take some time to think through the motives behind your actions. Are they to implement what you are reading, or is it to make you look better? Are your actions bringing people closer to God or pushing them farther away?
